Elemore Park, Elemore Lane , Hetton le Hole, Tyne & Wear, DH5 0QS

Follow in the footsteps of George Stephenson as we walk the short distance from Elemore Park to Hetton Lyons Country Park and learn about the early history of the railways in this area.

Join us for a short 2.5 mile walk from Elemore Park to Hetton Lyons Country Park, calling in at the Easington Lane Community Access Point (ELCAP) on the way.
We will learn about the interconnected history of the coal mines and railways in this area, most notably the Hetton Colliery Railway - the world's first railway built for steam haulage.
On the way we will call in for some light refreshments at ELCAP, where there will be an opportunity to view some superb historic photographs of the area.
The walk will finish at Hetton Lyons Country Park, former site of the the Hetton Lyons Colliery and home to a stunning steam engine sculpture.
Transport will be provided to take walkers back to Elemore Park.
